Ruth A. (Edmunds) Root 83 of Bernhards Bay, NY, formerly of North Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026 at Crouse Hospital with David, her husband of 60 years by her side.

She was born in Oneonta, NY, June 16, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice Edmunds. Ruth graduated from Columbia College with a degree in adolescent psychology. After raising her children, she returned to LeMoyne to study for her masters. Ruth ran the Alternative Education Program in the North Syracuse Central School District before retiring in 2006. After retirement, she moved to Oneida Lake in Bernhards Bay and spent her winters in the Villages, FL.

Ruth had the ability to make connections with anyone she met and make them feel special. She used this in her years teaching in Alternative Education and with her many friendships. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Ruth’s love of travel took her to 33 countries over her lifetime. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A loving mother and spouse, Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, David; sons, Matthew (Kim Marie) Root; and Justin Root. Grandchildren Benjamin, Hannah, Nicholas and Lydia; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, William and Richard, as well as her son, Michael.

Funeral services to honor her will be private.
