Obituary

Ruth Carol Trupp, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, peacefully passed away in the dawn of April 15, 2024 at the age of 88.

Ruth was born to Pearl Maude Greiefe and Carl Simon Toggweiler on July 25, 1935, in New Albany, Indiana, and was the youngest of six children. Ruth was small but mighty and remained so until her final days. Throughout her life, Ruth's presence filled every room she entered, and it was her magnetism that captured the heart of Capt. Eric Franklin Trupp, Sr., whom she married on July 13, 1957. Eric and Ruth had three children, Charlotte, Valerie, and Eric "Rick" Trupp, Jr.

Ruth attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida, and during her studies, she won the crown for Miss Stetson before graduating in 1957. After graduation, she pursued a teaching career, starting her tenure with second grade and later running KinderCare Learning Centers. A staunch American patriot and proud wife of an Air Force captain, she loved traveling around the United States and collecting mementos and memories with each visit—including meeting Pres. Ronald Reagan, which was one of the highlights of her life, as she'd tell you.

Ruth guided her family through military-motivated cross-country moves and the newness that came with each, always seizing each transition as an adventure and never wavering in her ability to connect with schools, friends, churches, and neighbors—she loved her communities and the people that made each so special.

When she wasn't coordinating potluck dinners with her friends from church or planning the next family visit with Eric, Ruth could be found playing her beloved piano or crocheting a gift for one of her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years Capt. Eric Franklin Trupp, Sr., three children Charlotte (Tom) Chatfield, Valerie Trupp, and Rick (Dee) Trupp, five grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Jeremy, Julia, and Adam, three great-grandchildren Hadrian, Isla, and Emilia, and sister Trudy (Don) Budlong. She was preceded in death by her siblings Charlotte, Margaret, Carl, and John.

A curious and creative soul with a gleaming bright smile and an indelible squeak-chortle-snort only certain ridiculousness could invoke, Ruth, Mom, and Gamie will forever live in the smiles and memories of her loved ones. A memorial service will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2615 Waycross Ave. Eustis, FL. 32726. Time of service to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
