Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ruthie was a woman who wore many hats, literally and figuratively, and even tiaras! Former beauty pageant winner, voice over actor and narrator- best known for being the original voice of Bell Atlantic phone company (“If you’d like to make a call, please hang up and try again…”), radio and television host, writer, pianist, art model and even a stand-up comedian later in life.

In 2016, Ruthie moved to Sarasota Florida where she found her tribe through art, music and dance.

She will be fondly remembered in the Sarasota community as an art model of Ringling College of Art/Design and Art Center Sarasota, radio host of WKDW 97.5FM, a standup comedian, and a regular attendee at the Siesta Key and Nokomis beach drum circles, a big supporter of live music, and of course, as the lady with the old school telephone.

Mother of Talia Genevieve Kerch and Elliott Benjamin Herbert. Sister to Michael “Max” (Ellen) and Steve Weisberg. Daughter of the late Libby Magness Weisberg. Countless friends who laughed, danced, sang, painted her, and loved her fiercely. Her life and influence were an inspiration and a sparkle of joy to so many people. Here’s to her “Great (Comedy) Gig in the Sky.”

A private celebration of life for Ruthie will be held in late October. Donations can be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
