Obituary

Salustiana “Chana” Muñiz was born on October 13, 1929, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to Cecilio Feliciano and Emilia Cortes, and was lovingly raised by her aunt, Elfemia Feliciano. On March 23, 1958, she married Juan Muñiz, and together they moved to Brooklyn, New York, where they raised a beautiful devoted Christian family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

They were blessed with six children: Joel Muñiz, Abel Muñiz, Elias Muñiz, Abiatar Muñiz, Elius Muñiz, and Idalia Muñiz. Salustiana also opened her heart to Félix Muñiz, Juan “Oscar” Muñiz, and Gloria Muñiz, Juan’s children from a previous marriage—raising them as her own with unwavering care, devotion, and affection.

From a young age, Salustiana shared her love through her hands and her heart. She sewed with skill and patience, often creating gifts that brought joy to others. Later, she discovered a deep passion for knitting, a hobby that became another way for her to pour love into the lives of those around her. No one ever left her home hungry; she delighted in preparing meals for her family, especially offering a hot cup of coffee to any guests, welcoming them with open arms and a full heart. Gathering her children and grandchildren around the table brought her immense joy, and these moments together were the highlight of her life.

Salustiana was the cherished grandmother of Miguel Muñiz, Zuheily Muñiz, Jason Muñiz, Eric Muñiz, Chris Muñiz, Yomaira Sanchez, Anthony Torres, Stephanie Torres, Jasmin Muñiz-Button, Daisy Muñiz-Pacheco, Yaritza Muñiz-Acevedo, and Juan Manuel Muñiz, and a beloved great-grandmother to Penelope Muñiz, Kalani Muñiz, Alexander Muñiz, Nico Muñiz, Ezra Muñiz, Amy Muñiz, Isaiah Muñiz, Dominic Muñiz, Logan Muñiz, Analise Sanchez, Wilson Sanchez Jr., Jayden Torres, Liliana Button, Ivy Button, Ezra Button, Violet Button, Evan Pacheco, and Nathaniel Pacheco. She also shared her love and guidance with her children-in-law—Yvette Muñiz, Maritza Muñiz, Carmen Lydia Muñiz, Cordula Muñiz, William Velasquez, and Wilson Sanchez—who stood faithfully by her side, offering care, support and love in return.

Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Salustiana had a gift for creating joy and laughter, whether through dancing, playing dominoes, or simply sharing a smile. Her love for God was the foundation of her life, passed down through generations, shaping a family legacy built on faith, compassion, and the purest of hearts.

Salustiana Muñiz leaves behind a life of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion—a life that will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
