Sandra Lee Tews, also known as Sandi, born Sandra Grunow on November 29, 1946, in Chicago, IL, passed away on May 9, 2024, in Lehigh Acres, FL, at the age of 77.
Sandi led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences. She began her career as a Physical Education teacher at Sacred Hearts Catholic School in Sun Prairie, WI, for 5 years before transitioning into the Real Estate industry as a Licensed Realtor in the Madison, WI Area. She later held various positions in the banking, financial, insurance and stock brokerage industries for over 20 years. Sandi dedicated about 20 years of service as the Chairperson on the City of Sun Prairie Board of Review and served on the Board of Directors for the Madison/Sun Prairie area YMCA. She was also the President of the Wisconsin/Upper Michigan chapters of the National Exchange Club, a service organization. Furthermore, Sandi's commitment to the community extended to her role as the Corporate Solicitor for the Second Harvest Food Bank in the Madison, WI Area.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Sandi was passionate about sports and adventure. She played a pivotal role in organizing the 1st Women's softball league in Sun Prairie, WI, and actively participated in bowling, racquetball, and volleyball leagues. Her love for adventure led her to become an avid scuba diver and instructor, exploring diving sites across the globe. Sandi and her husband, Ron, embarked on various adventures, including backpacking across Europe for 3 months and enjoying river cruises in Europe, Africa, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, and Burma/Myanmar. Paris was her favorite city and she returned there several times. One of her unique experiences was touring INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, France.
After retirement Sandi & Ron split their time between Wisconsin and Mexico for 10+ years before settling in North Fort Myers, Florida.
Sandi is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald Lee Tews from Rush Lake/Berlin, WI, her son Randal Lee Tews (Kim), grandchildren Allison Lee Klahn (Phil), Leah Terri Kaszubski (Andy), Carson Randal Tews, great-grandchildren Brock, Daniel, Levi, and Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Sharissa Lee Tews, at the age of 19. Sandi and Ron were also host parents for a year to a foreign exchange student, Cristina Lopez Alier from Barcelona, Spain.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandi's memory to the charity of the Donor's choice. Sandi will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, dedication, and adventurous spirit will continue to inspire many.
The family would like to recognize the compassionate care of Sandi at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FL and Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, FL. Cremation services were provided by Baldwin Brothers of North Fort Myers, FL.
