Obituary

Shane Meaker, born June 19th 1968, Australian by birth, Florida transplant and long time Cape Coral resident, passed away suddenly at 54 years old in Cape Coral, FL. He was originally from Melbourne, Australia and came to America 26 years ago in 1998 to meet at that time, his future wife, who he was with in life as well as will always be in death, his beloved Penny Meaker. He is predeceased by his mother, Aileen Meaker and leaves behind his father; Terrance Meaker, Kathy Meaker (step mother), as well as 6 brothers (Stephen, Anthony, Brian, Matthew, Andrew & Simon) and 2 sisters (Dianne & Jacqueline) in Australia. He took on the role of father of four kids who he was devoted to in life & now leaves behind: Caitlin, Brandon , Nicholas , and Christopher Byard. He was a loving, devoted, and unique father, although sometimes you'd say his kids drove him crazy but he loved them all the same and always set out to be an amazing role model as a husband and father.

He lived his life like he told his stories. Each one was individual and unique but sometimes you had to pay attention because he could spin a story. He loved riding his Harley, playing with his dogs, listening to music, especially Taylor Swift, cooking and working on his 1972 Chevy Nova with his sons. His second family was Cougar Companies, where he worked for them for 7 years, where he was the estimator but also felt like it was his second home. Thank you to Andrew, Brandon, and the Schmitt family as well as Jessica and all his other caring coworkers for allowing him the joy and pride he felt being at work each day. He loved his job, found such pleasure in bringing to life each job he was given and talking to others about how great it was to be allowed to do this job each day. Shane loved playing instruments but his love was his guitars. He loved to show off how well he played by even performing at his work one year for Christmas. He also had an interest in building Lego sets, especially ones about cars and Star Wars. He was an exceptionally smart and charming man that could gather an audience with his stories of growing up in Australia.

He was incredibly brave in the face of danger. He was diagnosed with stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma, intrahepatic, in 2022, and he never let that fear stop him from doing the things he was passionate about doing, such as going to concerts (Taylor Swift especially) when he was sick, or even just going to work because of the loyalty he felt or the passion he had for the work he did.

Shane was strong willed, stubborn, but passionate about everything he did. He had a unique sense of humor as well as the biggest heart anyone could wish for. He was absolutely loyal, brave, and as generous as could be. He had wit but also was incredibly smart and learned a lot throughout his experiences in life. He will be remembered for the way he carried himself, and how he treated others. If you knew him, you knew exactly the type of person he was. When it was his time, he carried himself with love, dignity, strength, and full of peace. He will be missed incredibly. In typical Shane fashion, his wishes were to be cremated so that even after death, he could still travel.
