Sharon A.
Metz
Dec 31, 1940 — Jul 16, 2026
Sharon A. Metz, age 85, died on July 16, 2026 in Venice, Florida after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Jill) Metz and Jeffry (Eric) Metz, her daughter, Sherri (Jeffrey) Morton, six grandchildren, and her sisters, Shirley Denick, Verna Feely, Janice Settles and Linda Kinder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Wilma (Kupferschmid) Bachtold, her husband, Donald Metz, and her brother, Jerry Bachtold.
Sharon was born on December 31, 1940 in Fairbury Hospital, Fairbury, Illinois and raised in Forrest, Illinois. Although she lived near Detroit, Michigan most of her adult life, Sharon and her husband Don enjoyed spending winters after retirement in their Florida home, situated near a golf course and many of their friends. Later, they moved to Florida full time to be near their sons.
A strong believer in the Lord, Sharon was deeply involved in the churches her family attended in suburban Detroit and served in a variety of capacities for over 50 years. She was also a devoted and supportive wife, mother and grandmother, cherishing time spent with her children and grandchildren, and bringing her children and their families together for a vacation each year.
Sharon was an excellent cook and baker, and loved blessing others with the product of her skills. She was adored by her family and friends, and will always be remembered for her quirky sense of humor, generosity and willingness to help others.
A memorial service will be held for Sharon later this year in Venice, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Bridge Church, Venice, Florida (thebridgevenice.com), or Tidewell Foundation, Inc., which supports Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida (tidewellfoundation.org).
