IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon
Wallace
April 18, 1947 – November 5, 2022
Sharon Wallace lost a heroic battle with cancer and its aftermath on 5 November, 2022. She was 75 years old. Sharon was born to James and Martha Jean Corbin on 18 April, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky. Her father worked as the shipping foreman for the golf club department of Hillerich & Bradsby Company (of Louisville Slugger baseball bat fame) while her mother tended to the family, and was a first class cook. Sharon grew up in the family home in Middletown, Kentucky and attended Eastern High School. It was at Eastern that she first met Scott Wallace. Through an extended seven year courtship that started in the 9 th grade and over almost 53 years of marriage, she and Scott held a deep and abiding love for each other. Upon their marriage in December, 1969, Sharon took on the role of a dedicated Army wife. During their almost 40 years in the Army, Sharon learned what it means to serve, and mentored other Army wives. Her simple message to the wives of newly minted Army Commanders was simple … live by the golden rule. Sharon loved to play golf, although not as well as she would have liked. While stationed in Fulda, Germany she was introduced to country line dancing which she not only enjoyed, but took the opportunity to teach to other wives during follow-on assignments. She had a quick and dry wit which she used to good effect to keep Scott in check. Regardless of what life brought her way, she was kind, gentle and gracious. Above all else, her greatest joy was her family.
Sharon – known as Nana to her grandchildren – is survived by her husband, General Scott Wallace, US Army retired, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; her sister Patricia Mitchen (Charles) of Crestwood, Kentucky; her daughter Tara Lee (Kyu Ho) of Irvine, California; granddaughters Abby Lee of San Jose, California and Allie Lee of Irvine, California; and grandsons Jacob Lee of Los Angeles, California and Kyler Wallace of Fort Worth Texas. Her son Todd Wallace (Meaghan) of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away in 2021 from pancreatic cancer.
The family is grateful for the many talented and caring nurses, technicians and medical professionals who gave Sharon hope and comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, PO Box 23827, Tampa, FL 33623-3827 or at moffitt.org.
The family will greet friends at 1100 on 10 December, 2022 at Middletown Methodist Church, 11902 Old Shelbyville Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40243 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1200. Guests are invited to attend a buffet lunch immediately following the celebration. Sharon's cremated remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
