Sheila M. (Birch) Filkins of Summerfield, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 72.

Born in Troy New York, she grew up the the neighborhood of South Troy. She was very proud of where she grew up. She started a face book page call South Troy Against the World.

Sheila spent 13 years working at Rodgers Jewelers in Troy, NY. After moving to Watervliet NY she spent many years running Always and Forever Day Care out of her home.

She was a lifetime, die-hard fan of her beloved New York Yankees, rarely missing a game on TV. Above all else, Sheila was dedicated to her family. She was the heart and anchor of her home. Known for hosting large family dinners on holidays. She had a special place in her heart for Bernie Bly and daughter Lauren, special friend Ginny Boyce and for the Orange Blossom Community Center and the Kitchen Girls.

She leaves behind her husband of 25 years Richard Filkins, a daughter Megan Birch, and 3 grandchildren. Isabella Birch, Joshua Birch and Benjamin Morrissette and her beloved dog Sandy, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She was predeceased by her daughters Jennifer Birch, Sheila Birch and son Joshua Denhert.

The family would also like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Florida Cancer Center, The Villages for their compassionate care and support.
