Obituary

Sheila Ann Hoppensteadt was born in Chicago Illinois on July 9th, 1935, to Robert and Helen Doyle. In her early years the family moved to Itasca where she grew up and met her future husband, George. They married in 1954 and were together until 2020 when George passed away. Sheila was known to everyone as a kind, generous person who was devoted to her family and which was reflected in her choice of career teaching special needs children. George’s job had the family moving several times, from Menomonee Falls Wisconsin, where her three boys were born, to Reno Nevada where she received the college degree required for her to teach, to Phoenix Arizona, Rohnert Park California and finally to Palm Harbor Florida after they retired. She was a prolific painter in oil and watercolor; she filled their homes with art she had created. In 2005 she and George moved to The Villages in Florida where Sheila thrived doing volunteer work with special needs children, golfing regularly with her friends, reading novels and the paper to George after his eyesight began to fail and taking advantage of the many activities the area had to offer. In her later years she suffered from Alzheimer’s, but even when her memory failed her the kindness and gentleness that was at her core always shone through. She is greatly missed by her sons Jon, who was her caregiver for the last five years of her life, and Robert. She was predeceased by her youngest son Charles in 2014. She also had a younger sister, Diane, who is also deceased. Along with her sons she also has four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
