Obituary

Shirley Ann Southard (G-ma to her family) passed away at the age of 95 on June 15, 2023 in Kissimmee, Florida.  She was born in Scituate, MA on 4/27/1928 to Ellis and Ethel Litchfield. Shirley grew up on the south shore, where she developed a lifelong love of the ocean and nature.  She would marry the love of her life, Everett Southard, and together they would become devoted parents to two daughters Susan and Brenda, and eventually were very involved with extended family of son-in-law's, grandchildren, spouses of grandchildren and great grandchildren!

Shirley loved gardening, listening to classical music, and going to plays and the ballet.  She was always ready to help out a friend in need and volunteered for many charities and church organizations.  Shirley enjoyed spending many an afternoon, playing golf with Everett, even though the score was rarely in her favor! They loved to travel,  square dance, go to sporting events and spend time with family. She had a dry sense of humor, and her witty commentary was a delight to her family and friends and later to some special caregivers at Merrill Gardens which was her last residence.

After Everett's passing, Shirley moved first to Tennessee, where she made some wonderful friends and continued her charity and church work and then to Florida to be close to her daughter, Brenda and her husband, David Roy. She enjoyed both beautiful coasts and the lushness of year-round flowers and plants. Her  favorite times were family reunions,  holiday celebrations, and games around the dinner table.

Shirley is survived by daughter, Brenda (the  late David) Roy of Kissimmee, Florida, four grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Roy Jr. Of Madison, Alabama, Wendy (Christian) Cram of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Joshua (Emilie) Grigsby of Vienna, Austria, and Nicholas (Tori) Wagner of Boylston, Ma and four great grand children, Katelynn and Taylor Roy and Evan and Elsa Cram. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Ellen Gelpke, and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Everett, Southard, and daughter, Susan Wagner Yokel.  She will be buried alongside Everett in Massachusetts later this summer.
