IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen B.
Durgin
February 23, 1942 – June 21, 2025
Steve, 83, of Oak Hill, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with heart disease.
Steve was born on February 23, 1942, in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Steve grew up an army brat and he and his family moved around a bit. He was a proud big brother, always keeping a watchful eye on his two baby sisters no matter where they were. Steve often shared cherished childhood memories visiting his grandfather's hunting camp in Maine. In high school, he enjoyed playing the game of football. After graduating high school, he attended a couple years of college.
Steve served in the United States Air Force from 1961-65 as an Airman First Class, testing & monitoring at nine Atlas E missile sites located around Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. These sites were operational from 1959 to 1965. Interestingly, the missiles, SM-65 Atlas E variants were housed in underground silos that were part of the broader US nuclear defense system.
Prior to entering retirement, he also had a 29-year career as a supervisor with Delta Airlines from 1965-1994.
After dating the love of his life for 3 years, on March 26, 2011, Steve married Blanche in Edgewater, FL. They've celebrated 18 years together.
There wasn't a person that didn't like Steve. His wife credits him as the most giving, compassionate and loving man she ever knew. He was very protective of her and his family. He was selfless. He wanted to help everybody in anyway he could. He was eager to please anybody and everybody that he came across.
He came back out of retirement from Delta and enjoyed a new chapter working with Manheim Auto Auction in Daytona Beach. His work buddies quickly became family to him.
He lived to ride his Honda Gold Wing and his Can-Am! He had a passion for participating in charity rides. Another favorite pastime was watching NASCAR & his Sunday NFL football games. He was a diehard Patriots fan.
Steve loved all animals, but he thoroughly enjoyed his dog, Holly. She is a German Shepherd-Akita mix. She was rescued from Georgia following a hurricane and brought down to Florida where he fell helplessly in love with her and chose to adopt her. They spent many of days just sitting on the front porch together, something Steve really enjoyed doing.
Steve and his wife, Blanche, belong to four clubs including The American Legion-Post 285, The Fraternal Order of Eagles-Post 4242, & were life members of both AmVets-Post 2 and The Elks.
Steve is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Blanche; his sons, Scott (Laurie) & Gary (Laura); his step-sons, Robert (Rebekah) & Paul (Jennifer); his four grandchildren, Chelsea, Brandon, Delaney, & Dominique; his four step-grandchildren, Caroline, Abigail, Ashley & Ethan; Sisters, Diane & Rosanne; cousins; nieces & nephews; not to mention countless loving friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Durgin & Shirley Fillmore.
His military honors & burial service will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 U.S. Highway 1, North Mims, FL 32754. The Celebration of Life to immediately follow at AmVets Post 2, 1209 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, FL 32132.
We were all so truly blessed to have shared our lives with Steve, and we will miss him immensely.
