Obituary

The Hancock family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Stephen Hancock, a beloved husband and devoted father, who left us on August 25th at the age of 59. Stephen is survived by his wife of 26 years, Suzanne (nee Todd), and their two daughters, Lauren and Sarah, mother, Barbara and brother, Graeme. He was predeceased by his father, Gordon.

Stephen was a man of great character and warmth. He valued loyalty, humor, kindness, and dedication which will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

His greatest pride and joy was his family. As a father, he was deeply involved in Lauren's and Sarah's lives, offering them unwavering support, love, guidance and the occasional help on an accounting assignment. His dedication to them was evident in every interaction and milestone shared.  His advice to his children was believe in yourself, do your best, forget the rest, and don't do stupid "stuff"– he may have used a different word on occasion.  Sage advice for us all.

Stephen was the family planner, not only providing for his family but making sure not a thing was missed or a moment wasted on family vacations.  He had a particular penchant for planning daily activities and excursions, providing some of family's best memories.

Stephen's marriage to Suzanne was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Their relationship was marked by mutual respect and affection, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. Stephen's devotion to Suzanne and his role as a partner in their journey together were central to his life.

Sports were important to Stephen.  He supported his daughters in their sporting endeavors making sure to show up for swim meets and get the kids to the pool for practices – he was one of the best swim Moms on the team.  He was also a superfan, passionately cheering on his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stephen attended several Super Bowls  and hundreds of hockey games, with the Cowboy's win in 1994 and the Lightning's 2021 Stanley Cup Final among the highlights.

Stephen had a successful career at Merrill Lynch where he and business partner, Rob Hudson, supported their wealth management clients with integrity and professionalism.  Stephen started his career in Canada as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG after completing his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Toronto. Stephen moved to the U.S. with Suzanne and became a CPA joining Merrill Lynch soon after.

Stephen will be profoundly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.  The family will be honoring Stephen at an event for immediate family members. In lieu of Flowers, Donations can be made to https://cholangiocarcinoma.org/donate/
