Stephen Francis Springman, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 5, 1945, in Muncie, Indiana, Steve's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and community service. He faced his final days with grace and courage, passing peacefully at home after a long, valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was the cherished son of Francis Xavier and Virginia Ruth Springman. He was deeply rooted in his family values, which he carried throughout his life, always holding his loved ones close. He is predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Betty Jane Allen. His legacy continues with his devoted wife, Charissa, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love, raising their two children, Alisa and Scott, who brought immense pride to their lives.
A proud graduate of Muncie Central High School and an attendee of Ball State University, Steve pursued a life of learning and service. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed aboard the USS John King and the USS Barney. After his military service, Steve returned to Muncie to join his father in founding the F.X. Springman Plating Company, where he dedicated his professional life until its sale in 2007.
Beyond his career, Steve was a dedicated member of the Exchange Club, the American Electroplaters Society, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Muncie. After relocating to Florida upon retirement, he continued his community involvement by serving on his homeowners association board, where he played a vital role in the community's recovery following Hurricane Ian in 2022.
Steve's interests were as varied as they were passionate. A car enthusiast and military history buff, he never missed an opportunity to explore historical sites or engage in spirited discussions about history. He and Charissa traveled extensively, creating cherished memories throughout the United States and Europe. However, his greatest joy came from supporting his children and grandchildren in their pursuits, whether cheering from the sidelines of a football or soccer game or the stands of a swim meet.
Known for his warm demeanor and ability to connect with anyone, Steve never met a stranger. His unconditional love for family and friends was the guiding light of his life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Charissa; his daughter Alisa and her husband, Jim Daniels; his son Scott and his wife, Rachael; his grandchildren, Riley Daniels Vespoli (Jason), and Henry and Harper Springman; his siblings, Mark (Lori) and Gayle Kurek (Rob); a niece, Erin Springman and a nephew, Connor Kurek (Liz). His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Friends are invited to share in a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 15th from 2-4 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Muncie at Horizon Convention Center. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Steve's spirit of generosity and community support.
