Steven Edward Werschulz was 72 years old when he passed on May 14, 2026 at his Florida home with hospice. Steve was born in Louisville, KY on May 19, 1953. He went to college at Western Kentucky University majoring in Business Communications and was the WKU Newspaper’s Advertising Manager – his name is on a plaque in that department even today! Steve sold for the Chicago Sun Times, Barrons’ Financial (Dow Jones), Electronic Buyers’ News (CMP), & Engineering News Record (McGraw Hill). Steve retired at 59 and became a starter/ranger for Village Greens in Woodridge for 10 years. He was on the board for 5 years at his homes’ HOA in Illinois - one year as President and was President of the Rio One Social Club in Florida for seven years. Steve was Scout Master for the Cub Scout Troop in Naperville and went on many campouts with his sons during their Boy Scout years.

Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years Celia (nee Richardson); his sons Bryan (Warrenville, IL), Michael (Chicago – Rogers Park); and grandson Alexander James (6); mother of Alex, Jill Cromwell; his brother Art and wife Patty (Israel); nephews Aaron (Trish), Nathaniel; and four great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry W and Lee Fay Levin Werschulz.

Steve loved to golf. He had a permanent tee time at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, IL for 40 years and the men became like brothers. Golf has kept him in touch with many friends from 4 Lakes, Cress Creek & best friend Mike Cirelli for all those years. As members of the foursome left, Steve was intricate in bringing in new members to keep the group going.

One of the groups fondest memories was Steve’s surprise 40th birthday party and seeing the entire green of 9 South filled with Steve’s friends & family cheering him down the fairway – and of course he hit a great approach shot to the green.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, 1008 Bichara Boulevard, The Villages, FL 32159 on May 27, 2026 at 1pm with a wake at the La Hacienda Rec Center immediately following. There will also be a celebration of life for Steve in Naperville, IL on August 9 – place TBA. Family recommends memorial contributions be given to KCCure - Kidney Cancer Research.
