Stewart Gibson Sports of The Villages, FL, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on March 1, 1944, in Fayetteville, NC, to Henry and Thelma Sports.

Stewart spent his working life with CSX Railroad, where he worked as a customer service representative and met his wife, Suzann.

He married Suzann Sports, and they were together until her death in 2019. The two of them traveled the world, and of all the places they went, Machu Picchu was his favorite. They made their home in The Villages, where Stewart spent his best afternoons on the golf course, at a pool table, or out shooting guns.

What people will remember about Stewart is his disposition. He had a good attitude and he kept it, which is rarer than it sounds. He was kind to people without appearing to think about it much, and he talked to everybody. He was stubborn, too, and anyone who knew him learned not to bother arguing with him — you were not going to win, and he was not going to hold it against you. He liked to joke, and he liked getting a laugh even better, and most people who met him once remembered him.

He is survived by his sister, JoAnn Wood Gray, of Brunswick, GA; his niece, Melody Wood, of St. Simons Island, GA; his nephews, Allen Jones, of Dallas, TX, and Michael Sports and his wife, Charlene, of Raeford, NC; and his cousin, Patricia Flora, of Williston, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzann, and his parents, Henry and Thelma Sports.

In accordance with his wishes, Stewart was cremated. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 2:00 pm at BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 1008 Bichara Boulevard, The Villages, FL  32159.
