Obituary

Sue (Gall) Brewer made the world's best, and simplest, potato salad. She was an avidly reading, hardworking, strong and practical woman. She had a warm, giving heart and was cherished by many, but the quality of her potato salad cannot be overstated.

Sue's story started in Cleveland, OH in February 1944. Her father, Walter, a WWII Marine who was deployed when she was born, and her mother, Suzanne, settled in Parma, OH. They had 2 other children, Elaine Barba and Don.

In her youth, she was (as she would have described) a knobby kneed, tree climber. As a teen, she was an excellent swimmer, strong student, fun friend, and caring sister. By her years at Kent State University, she was a quick-to-laugh, tall, slender beauty. At Kent State, she met and married Robert Walker, starting a family after her second year of studies. The two had 4 children, Linda Ott, Michael (Mike), Adrienne Ku, and Rebecca (Becky) Jackson. The two ended their marriage in 1974.

In 1975 Sue met Roger Brewer, father of Shelly Quirk, Keith, and Bryan. The two fell deeply in love and began blending their lives and families together. Despite a house full of hijinks, bursting at the seams with 7 kids and their friends, Sue and Roger married in March 1981.

Over the decades, her family grew to include 3 sons-in-law: Eric Ott, Bon Ku, and Randy Jackson. Affectionally known as Bubby to her 11 grandchildren: David and Joseph Quirk, Alex and Riley Ott, Talyor and Bailey Walker, John Roger Brewer, Tyler and Ryan Ku, and Emilia Jackson-Keenan (Matthew (Matt) Keenan) and Jamie Jackson, her 7 great-grandchildren, and the many dozens of people whose hearts she touched.

In retirement, Sue and Roger made their way to Florida, or as she liked to call it, "God's waiting room". She spent her time gardening, feeding the birds, reading, and, every Wednesday night, watching Survivor. She enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren, when she would make her famous potato salad, have one little whisky and water, and enjoy all the laughter and noise. However, no calls or noise was permitted on Survivor night of course.

Sue and Roger also spent the last decade and a half moving into fixer-upper homes, carefully updating them, and then moving on to the next. HGTV most certainly missed out on a hit show! They finally settled on a move-in-ready home in Tavares, where, on December 5th, she passed away quickly and peacefully in the arms of her loving husband.

Honoring her private and practical nature, her family will spread ashes in her garden and hold a private celebration of life. Cards, prayers, and heartfelt thoughts are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sue's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
