Susan Anderson passed away peacefully on the morning of July 4, 2026 in Fort Myers Florida, at the age of 72. Fort Myers held a special place in her heart. It was where she spent her final years enjoying retirement and near where she once spent some of her happiest years raising a young family before moving back north to Illinois.
Born to Hans and Dorothy Lange, Susan was preceded in death by her beloved father, Hans Lange. She leaves behind a devoted husband of 46 years, Stewart Anderson, whose love and partnership made for a life filled with family, laughter, and cherished memories.
Susan was a proud and loving mother to four children: Chase (Jenny) Anderson, Leslie (Brad) Gregorin, Clay Anderson, and Lauren (Taylor) Murray. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Lilly, Molly, Charlie, Henry, Eleanor, Blake, Brantley, Wyatt, Kinley, and Cade, whom she loved deeply and followed with endless interest, enthusiasm, and pride.
She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Lange, and her three sisters, Nancy Moser, Diane Balma, and JoAnne Pierringer.
Susan will be remembered for her friendly nature, quick sense of humor, and deep devotion to her family. Though she often worried about those she loved, that concern came from a heart that cared deeply for others. Family was always at the center of her life, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures: tending her garden, shopping for family and friends, taking walks with her dogs, and keeping up with every milestone, activity, and accomplishment of her grandchildren. She also fondly remembered her beloved dogs, Ginger and Colby, who preceded her in death and brought her years of companionship and joy.
Susan's warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Susan’s friends for their prayers, kindness, and support.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Sarasota Veterans Cemetery on Monday, July 27th at 10:00am followed by a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance in her honor at https://impact.ccalliance.org/In-Memory-of-Susan-Anderson
