Susan Ellen (Capaldi) DiCaro, 72, of Gulfport, FL passed away on May 26, 2024 peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Fort Myers, FL. Sue was born on July 13, 1951, in Bronx, New York, to parents Joseph and Josephine Capaldi. She graduated from nursing school in 1970. On May 7, 1978, she married her soulmate Sebby DiCaro in Lake Carmel, NY. She spent more than forty years caring for others as a nurse in Putnam County, NY and in her community of Gulfport-St. Petersburg. Sue was fiercely independent and forged her own path in both life and career. She was known for her keen sharpness and pointed words to those who didn't understand that she was always right.
Sue had many great loves, none more than traveling to Italy with her husband. Earlier in her life, she traveled with friends and solo often to Europe visiting the great cities and collecting local mementos from Paris, France, Milan, Italy and Munich, Germany. She was a celebrated local artist in Gulfport known for her distinct artistic style. She was proud of her children's accomplishments and expressed her pride in quiet moments.
She is survived by her loving children, Rachel (Donald S. Metscher) Metscher of Texas and Christina DiCaro (Marcos Gonzalez) of Lehigh Acres; JoAnn Sprague; Sister of New York as well as many other loving friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Angela Tompkins and her loving husband of 42 years Sebby DiCaro.
A funeral/celebration of life/memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 21, 2024, at 1:00pm the Cathedral of St. Jude, located at 5815 5th Ave N., St. Petersburg, FL 33710. The family sends their sincere gratitude to the nursing team and staff at Hope Hospice of Fort Myers. Those interest in donating in lieu of flowers may do so to More Hope in memory of Sue DiCaro.
