Susanne
Martin
August 13, 1951 – April 8, 2026
Susanne Gyldenvand Martin passed away suddenly at home on April 8, 2026 at the age of 74. She died of Hypertensive Heart Disease.
Susanne was born on August 13, 1951 in Valley City, North Dakoda to John and Delores Gyldenvand (both deceased). She is survived by her husband Ronald Martin and four sons: Adam Martin, Aaron Martin, Paul Martin and Luke Martin. Also surviving are her sister Betty Selders and her brother John Gyldenvand. Susanne also was a dog lover all her life and is also survived by Teddy and Rusty, rescued poodles.
Susanne grew up on a potato farm with her family in Verona North Dakota. Susanne started school in a traditional small one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Verona High school in a class of 20 students. In 1963 she watched all the events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy. She was determined to live in Washington DC. After graduation from North Dakota State College of Science (NDSS) with an Associate’s Degree, Susanne headed to Washington DC. She worked for the Veterans Administration as a legal secretary. During Jimmy Carter’s administration Susanne was assigned to work in the White House on the dedication of the Vietnam Memorial. She worked for the government and private firms as a legal secretary until her marriage to Ronald Martin on Veterans Day November 11, 2000. During her 26-year marriage she travelled to many places in the world with her husband and worked hard on her hobby: She was a “Noonatic” (Hermit’s Hermit’s Peter Noone’s fan club) attending hundreds of concerts.
Susanne lived in The Villages for ten years. Approximately once a week she would declare “Have I ever told you I love living in The Villages?” She loved her neighbors and the neighborhood. She was happy except for the Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) which made her legally blind and limited her activities. She loved to socialize and meet new people. She will be missed!
Concerning final arraignments, her urn will rest in North Dakota near her mother after a small ceremony at the cemetery.
