Suzanne Carole
Krug
May 25, 1942 — Sep 2, 2026
Fort Myers
Suzanne Carole Krug (Schmidt) of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was born on May 25, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois.
Sue attended Concordia Teachers College, which led her to student teaching in Iowa. It was there that her host family introduced her to Roger Krug, and their 60-year love affair began. After marrying, the couple eventually settled in Marshall, Wisconsin. Demonstrating a lifelong love of reading, Sue went on to earn her master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin. This achievement led to a career at the Marshall Public Library, where she ultimately became the Library Director. In retirement, she continued working part-time at the library in Cambridge, Wisconsin. In her early Marshall library years, she was often seen miraculously navigating her walk to work with her nose buried in a book. Her frugality was legendary (she never met a coupon she didn’t try to put to use), and Christmas will always remind the family of saving boxes and wrapping paper to reuse year after year.
Sue was always happiest at home, but retirement also brought the opportunity for many new travel experiences. She and Roger traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada in their travel trailer. They also enjoyed many international river cruises, adding to her treasured collection of Christmas ornaments and small, decorative pitchers along the way. For many wonderful years, Sue and Roger enjoyed summers in Marshall and winters in Fort Myers, eventually making Fort Myers their permanent home in 2020. Many of Sue’s daily activities centered around her book and quilting clubs. Many morning hours were lost to her crossword and brain-teaser puzzle books. The 7:00–8:00 p.m. hour was dedicated to Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! In 2021, Sue and Roger moved to the residences at Cypress Cove, where she actively participated in community life, enjoying a myriad of events, volunteering, and the company of her dear friends.
Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband, Roger Krug; her children, Laura Krug and Steven Krug; her sister, Anita (Ed) Cermak; her brother, Charles (Janice) Schmidt; her niece, Deanne Cermak; and her nephew, Ed Cermak Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lenore Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Florida, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa.
