SYDNEY HARRIET SELF PHILLIPS, 80, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, formerly of Pikeville and Winchester KY, died peacefully at home on December 13, 2016, with family at her side.
Born January 29, 1936 in Elkhorn City, KY, she is predeceased by her parents Grayson and Marjorie (Trivette) Self of Elkhorn City, KY, brother Colonel Robert G. Self of St. Petersburg, FL, (USAF Ret.), brother in law Thomas Seals of Louisville, KY, and her late husband Donald A. Phillips of Winchester, KY. Sydney attended college at UK and Pikeville where she studied Art. She later earned a degree in Nursing, from which she retired. She enjoyed activities with her children in girl scouts, boy scouts, basketball, baseball, cheerleading and was active in the PTA. She was a talented artist and enjoyed sewing and genealogy. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Coal Run Village, KY before moving to Winchester.
Survivors include her sister Thelma Self Seals, of Louisville, KY, brother Thomas Self (Phyllis), of Lexington, KY, daughter Melanie Phillips Hubbard (Toulmin), granddaughter Paige Hubbard (Austin); great grandsons Jacob and Walker, of Winchester, KY, daughter Donna Phillips, granddaughter Christy Barnard, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, grandson Stephen Harris (Alexis) of Lexington, KY, grandson CWO Robert Joshua Barnard (USCG), (Laura); great granddaughter Ashley, great grandsons Jesse and Cody, of Cordelia, CA, son Scott Phillips (Suzanne) granddaughters Samantha and Rachael Phillips, of Edgewater, FL, daughter Traci Phillips, granddaughter Megan Schommer of Winchester, KY, grandson, Dylan Schommer of Lexington, KY, grandson Patrick McMahan (Leah) great grandson Walt, of Louisville, KY, one niece and four nephews.
Vitas Healthcare provided excellent care for her at home and the family is grateful for their services.
A private service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date fulfilling her wishes of a burial at sea. Rest in peace, we will miss you always.
