Terrell James
Nicholson
July 13, 1937 – June 2, 2026
In Loving Memory of Terrell J. Nicholson
Terrell J. Nicholson, affectionately known as "Terry" and "Red," passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 88. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, mechanic, builder, and friend, Terrell lived a life defined by hard work, faith, family, and service to others.
Born on July 13, 1937, Terrell dedicated his life to providing for his family and helping those around him. After serving honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1966, he continued building a remarkable legacy through his work as a Master Mechanic and Heavy Equipment Operator.
Arriving in Florida in the late 1950s, Terrell played a significant role in the state's growth and development. Throughout his career, he worked on countless projects laying gas lines, water lines, and underground utilities of every kind. He helped construct seawalls along Florida's lakes and ocean shorelines, and much of his work remains in place today, serving communities and contributing to the thriving state Florida has become. His hands helped build the foundation upon which many others would prosper.
Known for his mechanical genius, Terrell could fix just about anything. Bicycle repair was one of his favorite hobbies, and three-wheeled bicycles were his specialty. Friends and family often joked that if something was broken, Terry would find a way to make it work again. His willingness to help was unmatched, and his skills were a blessing to many.
Outside of work, Terrell enjoyed fishing, boating, live music, and exploring Florida's historic sites and natural beauty. He traveled throughout the state, always eager to discover something new while appreciating the rich history and landscapes around him.
Terrell was a proud American who believed deeply in personal responsibility, individual rights, and standing up for what he believed was right. He was fearless in defending his convictions and was known for standing his ground while treating others with fairness and respect. He loved his neighbors, valued friendship, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Above all, Terrell loved his family. He was the proud father of four children, grandfather of eleven grandchildren, and great-grandfather of fourteen great-grandchildren. He loved deeply and found great joy in watching his family grow through the generations.
Terrell was blessed to share his life with two wonderful wives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Dola Nicholson, the beloved mother of their four children, and by his second wife, Alice Nicholson, who lovingly brought two grown children into his life and became a cherished stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to the family. Terrell shared 24 years with Dola and 32 years with Alice before their passing.
Those who knew Terrell will remember a hardworking, fun-loving, God-fearing man with a generous heart, an independent spirit, and a wonderfully eccentric personality. He spent every day striving to earn his own way while helping everyone around him however he could. He was never a pushover, yet he was always ready to offer assistance, encouragement, or a helping hand.
Terrell is survived by his siblings, Nigel Nicholson and Sylvia Nicholson; his children; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
His legacy lives on not only through the family he loved so dearly, but also through the roads, utilities, seawalls, and infrastructure he helped build throughout Florida, and through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, strength, and unwavering work ethic.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor in honor of Terrell's lifelong commitment to helping others.
Terrell's life was a testament to faith, family, hard work, and service. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
