Terry Marcus
Thompson
February 18, 1948 – June 19, 2022
Terry Marcus Thompson, age 74, passed away on Sunday June 19, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer. Terry grew up on a beautiful cotton and peanut farm outside Enterprise, Alabama. He studied electrical engineering at Auburn University and went on to work all over the world including Saudi Arabia, France, England and the Bahamas. Terry and his wife Martha enjoyed many interesting travel and cultural experiences during those years.
After they settled near Martha's family in Covington, Georgia, Terry finished his career as an electrical estimator with TIC, a U.S. based industrial construction firm. In the early 90's, long before it became the norm it is today, he negotiated a deal with TIC to use his electrical contracting licenses in exchange for allowing him to work from home. Working from his country home allowed him to enjoy his family of 4 dogs and tend his garden. The work sessions there and the colorful pool parties resulted in many lifelong friendships. He loved getting a new tractor as much as getting a new Harley Davidson motorcycle. Terry spent 8 years at Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville, GA where he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, boating, guitar playing, spoiling his dogs, and showing off his cooking expertise. In 2018 Terry and Martha retired to an active adult community in Ocala, Florida where he continued to form rich friendships.
Terry was known for his open mind and his broad knowledge gained from extensive reading as well as life experiences. He was a mentor to many young men and women through the years. He will be remembered for his kindness and his unique and mischievous humor which made him so much fun to be with.
Terry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha Kemp Thompson, his sister Rosemary June McConaghy Wasness, (Don), his sister Sherry Kay Farris, (Omega), sister-in-law Laura Ramsey Kemp, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Evelyn Beasley Thompson, his father, Marcus J. Thompson, and his sisters Mary Evelyn Childs & Barbara Jeanette Schmidt Stadola.
Donations in Terry's memory may be made to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, Marion County Hospice of Ocala FL, or your favorite pet charity. A memorial service will be held in the future.
