The family of Thelma Stevenson Ablan announces her passing with deep sadness and immense love.
Born on June 3, 1941, in Massapequa, NY. Thelma built a remarkable life defined by determination, independence, and devotion to those she loved. Thelma spent most of her years in Chicago, IL. with her beloved husband Gerald Ablan Sr. before retiring to Nokomis, Fl.
Thelma was a woman of conviction who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. As the founder and president of Stevenson & Associates, she became a respected Chicago businesswoman and advocate for small businesses, bringing her passion and determination to causes she believed in at every level. She had a commanding presence, a sharp mind, and honesty that people always knew was genuine.
While she was known for her strength and outspoken nature, those closest to her knew another side as well—deeply caring, loyal, and generous in quiet ways that often went unnoticed. She gave freely of herself to friends, family, and anyone in need, never seeking attention or recognition in return.
Above all else, Thelma cherished her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Ablan Sr.; her children, Gerald Ablan Jr., Daniel (Maria) Ablan, and Melissa (John) Smyth along with their grandchildren, Cassandra Ablan, Amelia Ablan, Madison Ablan, Ian Smyth and Gianna Smyth, all of whom she loved beyond measure.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Kathy (Rich) Farber, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear lifelong friends who will miss her deeply.
She will be remembered for her resilience, humor, fierce loyalty, and the unmistakable energy she brought into every room. Her absence leaves an immeasurable void, but her spirit and the memories she created will remain with her family always.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Women’s Resource Center: https://www.mywrc.org/
