Thomas (Tom) Harter returned to his eternal home on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by the love of his family and the peace of his faith. He passed away at home with his devoted wife by his side. Born on July 31, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late Clarence and Betty Harter. His remarkable life was marked by service, including a distinguished career with the Greenville, South Carolina police department and subsequent security work at government sites worldwide. Tom's adventurous spirit led him to become a certified cave diver, completing over 2,000 dives. His passion for the outdoors and love of long range shooting with friends inspired countless others. Tom's legacy lives on through his wife of 14 years, Bennie Harter, brother Richard (Maxine) Harter of Spartanburg, SC, son Andy (Katie) Harter of Columbus, OH, daughter April (Joe) Owens of Charleston, SC, two stepdaughters, Kimberly (Kjell) Olsson of Winter Garden, FL and Connie (Stu) Whitten of St. Petersburg, FL, seven granddaughters and one grandson.
