Thomas Edwin McCain

Thomas Edwin McCain, age 92, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away Tuesday, January 23, in hospice. He was born August 12, 1931, in Canton, Ohio, to Edwin and Eleanor McCain. Tom attended Lehman High School in Canton and earned a bachelor's in commerce from Ohio University. He owned and operated McCain Lumber with his late father and later McCain Carpet for 35 years.

He was a lifelong member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton and an active volunteer. Tom served on the Property Committee for more than 60 years. Most recently, Tom, along with his late wife, Carolyn, was dedicated to Sharing and Caring, the ministry that plans and assists at funerals and hosted meals for attendees after the service. With Carolyn, he enjoyed being part of small groups, bible study, as well as a range of committees and activities.

Tom was an avid sailor, spending many weekends at Atwood Yacht Club racing Lightning sailboats, first with his dad as a young boy, and then with his brother-in-law, children, and nephews. He served as Commodore of Atwood Yacht Club in 1970.

After moving to Florida in November 2022, he joined First Presbyterian Church in New Smyrna Beach.

He is survived by his three children: daughter Cynde Norris of Winter Park, FL.; sons, Mark McCain of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Tim McCain of Jupiter, FL; and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Carolyn McCain, and his sister, Jean Ann Koons.

A funeral service will be held February 17, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 509 Magnolia St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made in Tom's honor to the Property Maintenance Fund at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St. West, Canton, OH 44702.
