Obituary

Thomas Peter Higgins, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away October 3, 2026, peacefully surrounded by the love of his family, he was 88 years old.

Tom was raised in Newton, Massachusetts, and entered the United States Army as a young man, proudly serving his country while stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he built a highly successful career in the printing and graphic design industry, holding senior positions with several companies, including Kendall Company, Colgate-Palmolive, and International Paper.

Tom and his wife Roberta had careers that took them on a remarkable journey around the world. Together, they lived and made incredible friends in Boston, London, Brussels, Bermuda, and Chicago before eventually settling in Florida, where they made their home in Lady Lake and Winter Park.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom had a deep appreciation for travel, family, and the simple pleasures of life. He loved traveling and especially cherished the many summers spent visiting close family in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He also loved sailing and golf, a passion he discovered as a very young man while caddying at Sankaty Head Golf Club on Nantucket.

Tom was a kind-hearted and generous man who treated all people with warmth and respect. He was a fantastic storyteller and had a great sense of humor—one that was not always understood by everyone—but he had a remarkable ability to make people smile, laugh and feel comfortable both during the happiest moments and through the difficult ones. His humor, warmth, and generosity became a memorable part of who he was.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Roberta Montafia of Winter Park, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Philip Knight of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts; and his grandchildren, Riley, Christopher, and Craig Knight of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends who were fortunate to know and love him.

He was the son of the late Sadie and Thomas Higgins and was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Francis and James Higgins.

Tom will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His kindness, laughter, generosity, and love for life will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. A service with military honors and a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.
