Thomas Sochacki's Obituary

Thomas William Sochacki, 69, of Rome, passed away on March 26, 2019, in Florida. He was the son of the late William and Helen (Szopinski) Sochacki, and was born November 26, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Western Michigan University, and later received his Master of Science-Management degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He was employed as an engineer with Lockheed Martin until retiring in July 2016.

He was united in marriage to Janis Thrasher on October 26, 1996 in Westmoreland, New York, and they shared a blessed union of 22 years.

Tom loved spending time with his adoring family and attending various sporting events to support his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, was a gifted landscape artist, and spent lots of his free time gardening. He was an avid sports fan of the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, Michigan University football and basketball teams.

Tom had a passion for thoroughbred racing, enjoying Saratoga racing to view the world's best race horses. The best thoroughbreds are measured by their performance in Graded Stakes races. The racing gods know Tom battled his diagnosis with the class and courage of a multiple Grade I winner.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janis Thrasher, stepsons Brandon (Misty) Thrasher, of Holland Patent, James Dick (Ann), of Rome; grandchildren, Deegan, Caleb, Taylor, and Skyler; sisters in law Fawn Hale (Bob) Blossvale, New York, Diane (Jeff) Warner of Bloomfield, Michigan, and several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

All are invited to celebrate Tom's life at a memorial service on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Floyd United Methodist Church in Floyd, New York.
