Thomas Michael Staniec ,61, of Fort Myers passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born May 7, 1962, in Chicago, IL to Michael and Marilyn (nee DLapa) Staniec and lived in Bellwood until the age of 7.
When Tom was younger, he was very active in band, orchestra and soccer. He played the clarinet and then Tuba and went on to play tuba in the band at Marquette University where he graduated.
In 1985 Tom moved to SWFL and after Twenty-six years of service, Tom retired from the United States Postal Service in 2019. He was very involved with the Florida Eels Hockey team as a parent. His retirement gave him even more time to get involved with Payton's hockey where he was a coach for the younger players, a recruiter and helped maintain equipment as well as strength trained.
He was a die hard Chicago sports fan. Watching his teams even when they weren't at their best.
Tom is survived by loving wife, Dina; sons, Steven Staniec and Payton Staniec; adoring mother, Marilyn Staniec; sisters, Donna (Mike) Sikyta of Columbus, OH and Nancy (Scott) Sabo of Panama City; step-children, Mikey Flores and Maryflor Flores; nieces, Samantha and Madison Sikyta, Courtney, Christopher and Michael Sabo; as well as great nephew, Colton Sabo.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Michael Staniec; grandparents, Leo & Virginia Staniec and Stephen & Anna Andlar; as well as aunt, Joanne Staniec.
A Celebration of Tom's life was held Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Refuge Church in Fort Myers, FL.
