IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Toney J.
Kendrick
April 16, 1953 – March 4, 2025
Toney J. Kendrick, 71, originally from Bidwell, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Advent Waterman Hospital, Tavares, attended by his sister. Toney was born on April 16, 1953, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Grayson and Helen Kendrick. He spent his younger years in Ohio and moved to Florida when he was 12. He graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1972 and attended technical schools for welding, sandblasting, and concrete.
During his working career, Toney was a "jack of all trades". He worked in construction, piloted the Rainbow Queen paddle-wheeler at Rainbow Springs, managed a concrete plant, had a welding & sandblasting business, ran a family farm, managed a rental mobile home park, owned & operated a gun shop, was owner/operator of an 18-wheeler, was dispatcher for a wrecker service, and drove a taxi. He worked hard all his life, but he made time for fun, too. He loved guns and enjoyed teaching his nephews how to safely use them. He had several recreational vehicles over the years, including 4-wheelers and motorcycles. He loved serving his church, playing Santa Claus, providing goodies for the children, helping with community activities and fundraisers. When he moved to Florida, Trinity Lutheran Church in Summerfield became his home church. He was "Mr. Coffee", faithfully attending the coffee bar between services, making everyone feel welcome. Then he joined the Board of Fellowship and became the "right hand man" for the Chairman. Because of his varied work experience, he also was selected to serve on the Board of Trustees. In 2023, Toney moved to Lakeview Terrace CCRC in Altoona, Florida. His new "fun" activity was assisting the Fitness Coordinator with programs/classes at the Fitness Center, especially Wii Bowling. He loved setting up the monitors and showing people how to "Wii bowl". He loved his life at Lakeview Terrace and became known by many. Whatever activity Toney engaged in, he gave it his all. And wherever he went, he tried his best to make it better. He was a loving son, a loyal brother, a doting uncle, and a trustworthy friend. He's probably making coffee and teaching Wii Bowling in Heaven.
Toney was preceded in death by his father and mother, Grayson and Helen Kendrick, and his older brother, Herbert Clonch. Toney is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Alan) Koch, 3 nephews, Lee (Martha) Clonch, Russel (Stephanie) Clonch, and Anthony Koch, and 1 niece, Rachel Koch, plus several grand-nephews and nieces.
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Toney at 10 am, April 3, 2025, Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 17330 South Hwy 441, Summerfield, FL. Toney's ashes will be taken to Ohio later for interment. In lieu of flowers, if you choose, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, in memory of Toney.
