Venita Louise Daugherty née Buehre November 6th, 1932-July22nd, 2021

Venita Daugherty passed away peacefully at her home in Ocala, Florida on July 22nd, 2021; she was 88 years young.

Venita Louise Daugherty née Buehre was a loving mother; she had six children. She was a devoted wife to Jack Allen Daugherty, her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years. She was the very best Nana her 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren could hope for, and a close, loving friend to many.

She was kind, generous, wise, and strong. She was an artist, although she would never claim that title; she was also modest and unassuming. Her skills as a seamstress and cloth toy maker are legendary. All who knew her have these handmade treasures as reminders of her talent. More importantly, hundreds of children who never knew her have a Teddy Bear or cloth doll to love. She donated them to organizations helping families in need during the holidays, knowing how important it was to have a gift to open when times are hard.

While Venita always treasured her life with Jack and her children, there were also trying times. She married the love of her life in the hospital after Jack suffered a devastating accident that ultimately took his leg. Their first child was born less than a year later and many more quickly followed. Venita had five children before she turned 25. Her fierce determination to provide a stable and loving environment was matched by her industrious nature as she made much of what her children wore. She learned how to feed a family of 8 on a tight budget, and the 6:00pm dinner ritual was never broken. She became the master of her universe through hard work, a willingness to learn, and a deep devotion to her family. Each of her children felt the love she unselfishly gave until the day she died.

Venita extended this same care and consideration to her many friends. With all that was required of her in caring for her 6 children and managing her household, she still had time to lend her skills and services to any in need of them. She was a comfort to so many due to her ability to listen without judgement and offer useful advice. That she was mostly self-taught in all she did was astounding given the age when she married and the hardships endured early on.

Venita faced her death as she did her life, directly and with consideration for those around her. Those who knew her feel lucky to have shared in her love, kindness, strength, compassion, wisdom and understanding and will always remember her as the remarkable person she was.

She is survived by her brother, Pat, and her children, Shannon, Sandy, Carol, Tim, and Tom. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
