Obituary

Vincent “Vince” Thomas Scicchitano, born February 3, 1936, in Syracuse, New York, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 90, after courageously facing cancer with strength and grace.

He was predeceased by his parents, Saverio “Sam” Scicchitano of Italy and Catherine “Kate” (Foriero) Scicchitano of Batavia, New York; his brother, Salvatore “Sam” Scicchitano (Marlene); his sister, Catherine “Tina” Carroll; and his niece, Mary Elizabeth Fraccola.

Above all, he is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Dorothy, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage filled with deep devotion and an enduring love evident to all who knew them.

Vince graduated from Eastwood High School in Syracuse, New York, and went on to earn a degree in Industrial Relations from LeMoyne College.

He proudly served his country for five years in the Air National Guard and was stationed in Berlin, Germany, from 1961 to 1962. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman Second Class.

Vince spent many years working in Human Resources at SUNY Upstate Medical Center and later served as Director of Labor Relations at Syracuse University. He also gave back to his community as a two-term President of the Board of Directors of Vera House in Syracuse, New York.

Vince had a lifelong love of athletics and played competitive softball and fastball in two of Syracuse’s top leagues, the Northside Major League and the City Recreation League, where he was known as a top hitter. Golf later became one of his great joys. An avid golfer, he spent as much time on the course as he could and cherished the friendships and camaraderie he shared with his many friends and golf partners. As a longtime member of Lakeshore Yacht and Country Club in Cicero, New York, he spent many happy hours there enjoying the game he loved. When he wasn’t on the course, Vince also enjoyed spending time with a good book, a lifelong reader who appreciated learning and quiet reflection.

After retirement, Vince and Dottie moved to The Villages, Florida, where they embraced a wonderful life together and were grateful for the many friendships they formed along the way.

He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews: Catherine (Heyward) Preacher of South Carolina; Judith Scicchitano of Massachusetts; Scott Carroll (Eduardo) of Madrid, Spain; Patrick (Hanna) Fraccola of Utica, New York; Carl (Debra) Foriero of Baldwinsville, New York; Vincent (Amy) Foriero of Liverpool, New York; and Mary (Roshan) Patel of Westport, Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Francis House in Syracuse, New York, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Vince will be remembered for his devotion to family, loyalty to friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his long and full life.
