Visitacion “Bess” Alsola Ardanowski passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on January 25, 1934, in Cebu, Philippines. Bess was raised in the village of Malabuyoc, Cebu. As a young girl, she left her village to work as a nanny in Cebu City. Later, as a young lady, she moved to Olongapo for work, where she met U.S. Navy serviceman Benjamin Ardanowski, whom she would marry and build a family with. In the Philippines, she was known for helping street children—feeding them and giving them money. Her generous heart and compassion were a part of her every day. In 1964, Bess immigrated to the United States, beginning a new chapter in San Francisco, California. She loved America and was deeply grateful for the opportunities it gave her to work and build a better life for her family. Becoming an American citizen was a source of great pride for Bess. Bess later lived in San Diego and Lancaster before eventually settling in Santa Maria, California. She was known as a hard worker. While lovingly raising her daughter, Debra, she worked at the Vandenberg Inn and later at John Inglis Company. Bess found her passion in reselling. She loved going to estate sales and garage sales, finding treasures, and selling at the Nipomo and Santa Maria swap meets. She often told her family, “I love my job.” She enjoyed the treasure hunt most of all—the people she met and the friendships she made every day. She loved going to new places, talking to people, and of course, food. Her favorite daily question was, “Where will we eat today?” She loved seeing babies and dogs, and her face would light up at both. Above all, Bess loved Jesus. She attended Calvary Chapel Santa Maria. Her faith, kind heart, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others were evident in everything she did. In 2026, Bess moved to The Villages, Florida, to live with her daughter, Debra, and son-in-law, Rick, where she was surrounded by love and care. BESS IS LOVINGLY SURVIVED BY: Her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Rick Kaylor; her grandson, Noah Holmberg and his wife, Jessica; and her great-granddaughters, Juniper and Juliet Holmberg. Extended Family: Nick Kaylor and his wife, Jalene; Everson and Trayson Kaylor; Brittany Kaylor and Chase Dunlop; and Paris Holmberg.

A private family ceremony will be held in her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks those wishing to honor Bess to consider making a donation in her name to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Santa Maria, continuing a legacy of compassion for children and those in need.
