Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne C. Stephens of Eustis, FL who died unexpectedly on June 8, 2025, at the age of 84.  He was born in Ashland, KY to the late Garner and Mabren Stephens.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Rylee Smith.  He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy, children Lisa Smith (Keith) and Christine Stephens, grandchildren Brittney Stephens, Brandon Stephens, Ashleigh Worley (Joe), Josh Smith, Brent Bailey (Heather) and Todd Bailey (Alexis), along with great-grandchildren Mason, Madison, Kaylyn, Brianna, and Dakota, and two great-great grandchildren Sawyer, and Tinsley. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Litke (Andy), niece Amy Zientek, nephew Zachary Zientek, and great-nephew Caleb Walton.

Wayne spent most of his younger years in Norfolk, VA where he excelled as a young boy in the newspaper delivery business.  This is where he was bit by the travel bug after winning two trips for selling the most papers.  After graduating from Granby High School in Virginia he joined the United States Navy stationed out of Jacksonville, FL.  After leaving the Navy he began his career in the insurance industry, working for State Farm Insurance and the Florida Department of Insurance.  He held many positions over the years, enjoyed his work, and loved the travel that came with his career.  He was a member of several clubs and organizations, with the latest being the historic Cassia Community Club in Eustis, where he and Nancy enjoyed many different events. He was also a member of the Orlando United Church of God for 57 years and devoted his life to its teachings after he was baptized in 1968. His dedication to the church and its community was a testament to his faith.

Wayne was the epitome of hard work and love for his church and family.  He was always available to help anyone with whatever their need may be.  He had an amazing love of travel, and saw so much of the country, as well as overseas, and always made sure to see his children who lived out of state.  He traveled for family reunions and high school reunions for many years.  He was never one to sit, always on the go with a project, whether it be around the house or for a member of his church congregation, a friend or neighbor.  He made the best old-fashioned popcorn made on the stove, not out of a bag, and he loved learning history, enjoyed photography and metal detecting, and loved old classic cars, especially Corvettes.

After a private family service, a Celebration of Life will be held on August 9, 2025, at 5 p.m. where friends and family are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate his life.

Dad, your love and guidance will forever be etched in our hearts.  We are so thankful for the time we had with you and for the wonderful memories you created for us.  You will be forever loved and missed by all who knew you.
