Obituary

Fort Myers, Florida – Wilbert "Bill" Knipe, 92, a resident of Fort Myers passed away on June 13, 2021. He was born on September 16, 1928 to the late Arthur and Ida Knipe and leaves behind his beloved wife Sandy Knipe. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Clara, whom he was married to for 58 years, and their son, Scott. Bill grew up in Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1946, received his Bachelor's Degree in 1950 and his Engineering Degree in 1951 from Lehigh University.  While at Lehigh he was in the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the Army after graduation and is a Korean War veteran. Upon his return home he went to work for Bethlehem Steel Company in 1952, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Bill and Clara then moved to Fort Myers shortly after his retirement, where they enjoyed their family and friends. Bill was an avid tennis player, playing well into his 80's. He enjoyed watching football, traveling, the beach, music and singing in the choir, most recently at New Hope Presbyterian Church where he met Sandy. They were married on July 16, 2011 and spent their time in Fort Myers and summers in Piqua, OH with Sandy's family. They enjoyed traveling, music, each other's humor and their blended family. He is lovingly remembered by Sandy, his son Gary (Carole), his daughter Maurie Romeo (Tom), grandsons Asher Knipe (RyAnn) and Stephen Knipe and his great grandson Pierce Knipe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Music Foundation of Southwest Florida (Southwest Florida Community Foundation, 2301 Jackson St., Suite 100, Fort Myers, FL 33901 – Knipe Family Music Fund) or to the New Hope Presbyterian Church. The Memorial Service will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church on Saturday June 19, 2021 at 2PM.
