Obituary

William Joseph Becker, Sr (Bill) passed away July 9, 2024 , after a courageous battle with heart and end stage kidney disease. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June, 26th, 1946, the son of the late Gustave Rudolph & Beatrice Helen (Thatford) Becker.

Bill was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam Era in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean on the USS Essex. He was a graduate of Indiana University and retired from Unisys Corp in 2008, with over 30 years. He was life member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 5521-South Bend IN & Council 13624-Fort Myers, FL), where he held many offices, including Grand Knight and Financial Secretary. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus 4th degree Assembly 158, Father James J. O'Riordan.

He & Lois loved to travel. They went on many cruises and adventures. Bill was an active volunteer at church with the Ushers and Greeters & the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering in youth groups and many charities. He was a history buff and participated in civil war reenacting many years ago. But most of all, he loved his family.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 22 years, Lois (Shaffer) Becker, sons, William J (Danina) Becker Jr of Chicago, IL, Michael R. Becker of South Bend IN, daughter, Faith (Justin) Hein of Indianapolis, IN and stepdaughter, Alison (Jay)Yandle of Fairmont WV. Eight grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Yandle, Megan (Damon) Howard, Jordan (Amanda) Yandle, Neily Yandle (all of Fort Myers), Melody and Zoe Becker, Chicago IL, Hunter & Alexander Hein, Indianapolis IN. Six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Aubrey & Carson Yandle, Hayden, Camryn & Addilyn Howard (all of Fort Myers, FL) Sister, Patty (Danny) Conroy, brothers, Gary (Trish) Becker, Paul (Mary) Becker and many cherished nieces and nephews. Beloved friends, Jim (Jonette) Duvall, Joe (Sally) Gill, Tim (Cathy) Slaughter and Terry Love.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Gerard Becker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11am, visitation with the family at 10am, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers Fl. His ashes will be interned in the church memorial gardens.
