William Paul Distel, known to family and friends as Paul, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  Born on Long Island, New York to Muriel and William Distel, Paul was raised by the ocean and kept that lifelong connection to the water throughout his life.  Sailing, kayaking, surfing, walks on the beach to catch sunsets were among his favorite pastimes.  He found deep peace and joy in the outdoors.  Paul's love of nature was also reflected in his photography, through which he captured the world with a keen and appreciative eye.

Paul moved to Florida many years ago to help care for his parents and made New Smyrna Beach home ever since.

Paul will be remembered for his easygoing nature and his unmistakably mischievous laugh – qualities that made him both calming and delightful to be around.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Zippert, his nieces, Michelle Hohenhaus and Christine Roberson, his nephew, Michael Zippert, his grandnieces, Abigail and Greta Roberson, and his grandnephew, Matthew Roberson.

Paul loved his family more than words could express.  His memory will be held with everlasting love by all who knew him.
