The family of William E. Duarte share the sorrowful news of his passing on September 9, 2026, at the age of 87. Bill was born on February 5, 1939, in Westerly, Rhode Island, and grew up in Hope Valley, R.I. He was the son of Domingo and Sadie Duarte, and is predeceased by his sisters, Alice and Kathryn, and his brother George Arthur (Tony) Duarte.

After marrying Valerie (Grimes) in 1965, Bill earned his B.A. degree at NW Missouri State. Upon graduation, Bill and his family returned to Rhode Island. Bill started his welding career at General Dynamics, Quonset Point, where he worked for many years.

Bill will be remembered for his love of tennis. Every Saturday morning, you could find him at the tennis courts playing and teaching younger players. Bill was known for his sense of humor, upbeat personality, willingness to help others, and his love for family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Valerie, and his children: daughter Sunday Duarte and John Duarte of Biloxi, MS; son, Schuyler Duarte of Yarmouth, ME, and granddaughters, Anya and Summer Duarte of Yarmouth, ME.
