Obituary

William Thomas Holmes, known fondly to his loved ones as Bill, passed away on June 24, 2024, at the age of 70. He was born on August 15, 1953, in Riverdale, The Bronx, NY, and resided in Orlando FL for the last 20 years.

Bill had a zest for life and enjoyed various hobbies such as wining and dining, traveling, and playing golf. He had a deep appreciation for the music of the Eagles, Garth Brooks, and George Strait and could often be found watching NCIS and the Food Network.  Bill was a fan of old World War II movies, The Godfather series, John Wayne films, Spaceballs, and Turner Classic Movies.  He had a passion for food and enjoyed a wide variety of cuisines ranging from hotdogs and burgers to charcuterie boards and Italian classics. Bill was an avid reader and particularly admired the works of David Baldacci and Harlen Coben.  He enthusiastically supported the NY Giants and enjoyed playing racquetball and volleyball.  He loved his vacations to Italy, the Fiesta Americana in Cancun and cruises to the Caribbean.

Bill loved spending time with his family above all else; cherishing moments with his wife Kathryn Holmes, daughter Kelly Holmes, son Robert Holmes & fiance Samantha Swenson, and his grandkids Shane and Aiden Holmes. His greatest pride was his family and the life he built with them.

Professionally, Bill achieved great success as the Senior Vice President of Olive Garden. One of his proudest accomplishments was revamping the Olive Garden in Times Square, and later using the space to provide a place of refuge after 9/11 for the police force and firemen of NYC with food, drinks, and a place to rest on the first floor.

Bill had a giving and generous heart. He was always willing to lend a hand and support others in their endeavors. His selflessness was exemplified when he drove over an hour to help his grandson tie his tie for junior prom and when he searched tirelessly for the perfect bike for his son for Christmas.

Bill will be fondly remembered for his hard work, determination, and love for his family. The Olive Garden motto, "When you're here, you're family," reflects his commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for those around him. He impacted the lives of many, always striving to help others succeed and grow.

As we say goodbye to Bill, let us remember his legacy of love, generosity, and his unwavering dedication to his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bill was predeceased by his Mother Regina Johnson, his Father Emmit Johnson, and his Brother Charles Holmes. He is survived by his Wife Kathryn Holmes, Sister Regina Hayes, Daughter Kelly Holmes, Son: Robert Holmes & Fiance: Samantha Swenson, Grandchildren Shane Holmes and Aiden Holmes, Nephews Michael, John, PJ, Callen, Graem, and Nieces Luna and Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor within the next 1-3 months. The exact time and date will be determined and announced later. Bill's life and legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, a fund is being raised for the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of/william-thomas-holmes/donate/. These donations will serve as a tribute to Bill's life and the causes he deeply cared about.

Cheers to you, Bill.

May you rest in peace.

You will live on in our hearts forever.
