A Newcomer to Florida in 2015, Bill Thomas was born in the "Salad Bowl" region of California, Salinas, also known for John Steinbecks tales.
Bill's parents met after mom left Oklahoma in the 1930s Dust Bowl days and Dad served in the US Navy Submarine Service, instead of living life in the coal fields of West Virginia.
During the World War II years this area with Airfields and Troop deployments, filled his boy hood with aviation. He built models, flew with crop dusters & private pilots and in later years led chapters of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft ASSN.) Supporting Homebiltplane builders and 'Young Eagles' (Future Aviators).
As a teenager, cars were his passion, in the culture of the 50's- customizing cars, cruising Main Street & listening to "Wolfman Jack".
Trained locally as a welder and machinist at Hartnell college, he went on to the Monterey research lab. Later as a applications engineer, he developed new commercial and consumer products for the emerging disposables industry. Always, with an eye out for the new & improved & the possibilities.
He is survived by 3 daughters; Debbie, Inez, Kelly, 3 grandchildren; Ashley, Farrah, Dylan & 4 great grandchildren.
