William Lawrence
Von Dohlen
Aug 14, 1939 — Aug 30, 2026
William “Bill” Von Dohlen, age 87, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on August 30, 2026, in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina.
Bill is predeceased by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Annette (Young). He is survived by his sons, Bill of Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, and Joseph (Alexa) of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and by his daughter, Christine (Bruce) Lowin of Santee, South Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sydney Pritchard of Albany, New York; Renee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Rachel of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Brooke of Winston‑Salem, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille, and his brother, Gerard.
Born on August 14, 1939, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Bill graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, and earned his juris doctorate from Syracuse University Law School. He devoted his professional life to the practice of law, serving in many capacities, including 25 years as the town attorney for Greece, New York, and most recently as a partner at Darweesh, Kelly and Von Dohlen, PLLC.
Bill was deeply committed to public service and to strengthening the communities he called home. His dedication was evident through his active involvement in the Greece Rotary Club, his service as a commissioner for the Ridge Road Fire District, his roles as a Community Development District Supervisor and member of The Villages Investment Committee and Knights of Columbus in The Villages, Florida, and his many years of volunteer work at the Wildwood Soup Kitchen in Wildwood, Florida. A man of strong faith, he was a longtime parishioner at St. John’s Church in Greece and later at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in The Villages. Bill’s integrity, compassion, and unwavering moral character were second to none.
A memorial service celebrating the lives of both Bill and Annette will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in The Villages, Florida and the Wildwood Soup Kitchen.
