Obituary

William Nathaniel Weaver Jr. (Nat), 94, of Orlando, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023.  Nat was born in Hamlet, NC, son of the late William Nathaniel Weaver Sr., and Frances Pegram Weaver.  He was raised in Red Springs, NC and attended McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, for grades 9-12.  He received a BS degree in Accounting/Business from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1950. He was a commissioned officer, first lieutenant in the Navy, serving during the Korean conflict.

Nat is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carolyn Weaver, and his children, Bobbi Livingstone, Becki Weaver, Brenda Wren (John), and Bill Weaver (Judy), 6 grandchildren, and 2 great- grandchildren.  He moved to Orlando in 1954. In 1971 he studied at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and became a CPA after successfully passing all four parts of the CPA Exam on the first try.  Nat founded Retirement Accounts Inc. in 1976 after a persistent battle with the IRS to approve his request to become a non-bank passive trustee for retirement accounts, making him the first person in the US to serve in this capacity.  Nat's "self-directed IRA" business quickly grew to a company employing over 60 employees.  His years of tenacity in working with the IRS for this approval helped thousands of clients gain more control over their retirement funds.

Nat was an avid tennis player well into his 80's and was well-known in the local tennis community for being the top doubles player at Fort Gatlin in southeast Orlando.  He enjoyed many years of playing tennis with his son Bill and his local tennis partners. He was a competitive bridge player from his college days through his retirement years.  In his younger years he enjoyed boating, water-skiing, fishing and perfecting his culinary skills for special occasions with his family.

Nat was a devoted husband and family man.  He dearly loved his wife and four children and remained resilient to the challenges that life presented him.  Having been instilled by his parents with a strong work ethic and high moral standards, he served as a guiding role model for his children.  He was cherished by his family and countless friends; he earned the admiration and respect of numerous business colleagues throughout his working life.  In the last two years of his life, he bonded very quickly with his caregiver, Sandra Cox, who brought a ray of sunshine to his life with Carolyn in the retirement home.

The memorial service and reception will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando on April 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm.  Burial will follow on Monday, April 24 at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in honor of his service in the Navy.
